Today I have Wendy Higgins on the blog rec'ing books that she thinks people would love if they enjoyed or are too excited about her newest release, The Great Hunt, to wait for it and need something to tie them over in the meantime. This book is having its book birthday on March 8th, and I'm super excited to be featuring it for this event. It sounds pretty amazing, and I'm a sucker for fairytale retellings. And before I share Wendy's post, I wanted to some share more information about it. :)
Title: The Great Hunt (The Great Hunt, #1)
Author: Wendy Higgins
Release Date: March 8th, 2016!
From Goodreads...Kill the beast. Win the girl.
A strange beast stirs fear in the kingdom of Lochlanach, terrorizing towns with its brutality and hunger. In an act of desperation, a proclamation is sent to all of Eurona—kill the creature and win the ultimate prize: the daughter of King Lochson’s hand in marriage.
Princess Aerity understands her duty to the kingdom though it pains her to imagine marrying a stranger. It would be foolish to set her sights on any particular man in the great hunt, but when a brooding local hunter, Paxton Seabolt, catches her attention, there’s no denying the unspoken lure between them…or his mysterious resentment.
Paxton is not keen on marriage. Nor does he care much for spoiled royals and their arcane laws. He’s determined to keep his focus on the task at hand—ridding the kingdom of the beast and protecting his family—yet Princess Aerity continues to challenge his notions with her unpredictability and charm. But as past secrets collide with present desires, dire choices threaten everything Paxton holds dear.
Inspired by the Grimm Brothers’ tale, “The Singing Bone,” New York Times bestselling author Wendy Higgins delivers a dark fantasy filled with rugged hunters, romantic tension, outlawed magic, and a princess willing to risk all to save her people.
Wendy's Top 11 Book Recommendations if You're Excited About The Great Hunt!
The Great Hunt is high fantasy with a heavy focus on romance. I've made a list, in no particular order, of my favorite books by other authors that have the same/similar style/themes. I haven't read everything that's out there recently, but these are my absolute favorites of what I did read. I hope you'll enjoy them as much as I did!
1 - Poison Study by Maria V. Snyder
2 - Graceling by Kristin Cashore
3 - A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas
4 - The Kiss of Deception by Mary E. Pearson
5 - Stolen Songbird by Danielle L. Jensen
6 - The Winner's Curse by Marie Rutkoski
7 - Finnikin of the Rock by Melinda Marchetta
8 - The Falconer by Elizabeth May
9 - Cruel Beauty by Rosamund Hodge
10 - Blood Red Road by Moira Young
11 - Roar by Cora Carmack (this doesn't come out until 2017 but I'm reading the rough draft - OMG, add it now!)
*****omg I am SO JEALOUS you're reading Roar! I am dying to read it -- is it 2017 yet?? Finnikin of the Rock, The Kiss of Deception, and Cruel Beauty are books I've read and loved and totally want you all to read also! And the rest of them have been on my TBR for the longest time. Great picks, Wendy! :)
